PetroMoly Racecar and Robby Unser Keep Streak Alive at Pep Boys Radisson 200
HOUSTON--June 29, 1999--Worldwide PetroMoly Inc. (OTC BB: MOLY), the sponsor of the Robby Unser Indy Racing League car and provider of its advanced technology engine oil, continued its program of producing excellent results this past weekend at the Pep Boys Indy Racing League (IRL) Radisson 200, held at the Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado Springs, Colorado. PetroMoly is a high technology motor oil, which has engineered a safe stable suspension of Molybdenum, an element long known to dramatically inhibit friction and hold up under the most intense heat and stress environments. Robby Unser's race team chose this new technology motor oil to run in their racecar to improve the performance of the car, and to use its special properties to create the advantages of lower heat stress, higher compression, and durable performance over the long and incredibly stressful environments created in Indy car racing. Since the program began at the beginning of the season, the results have been impressive including an eight place finish at the Indy 500.On Saturday, Unser qualified sixth at a speed of 174.715 mph out of a field of twenty-four drivers. The same day at practice, the PetroMoly racecar turned in the forth quickest lap time of the session at 170.454 mph. Being the forth fastest car again gained Unser and PetroMoly meaningful attention, as it required the field to once again focus on Unser's car during the race.
Race day was full of anticipation, as the weather conditions were clear and windy, with intermittent gusts of thin mountain air. During the race the crew utilized an effective strategy that kept Unser in the top four positions or on the lead lap for the majority of the race. On lap 167 of 200, Unser came in for his final pit stop and was set to contend for a top finish. His car, however, had stopped a few inches out of reach from the fuel hose, which forced Unser to head out to the race and repit again for fuel. The PetroMoly racecar finished in sixth place, the same position that Unser claimed earlier this month at the Longhorn 500 in Texas.
"All in all it was a really good race. Running in this altitude and on this shorter track is very demanding on an engine, and the PetroMoly oil held up perfectly, giving me more power and better fuel economy than I normally see," says Robby Unser. "If we had the luxury of more practice sessions on this track before this weekend, then we would have been able to eliminate some of the problems that kept us out of the winner circle."
