New Horizons of Michigan Awarded GM Global Training ContractLIVONIA, Mich., June 28 -- New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Michigan has been awarded a major contract with General Motors Corporation that will result in more than 20,000 GM employees receiving computer training on an annual basis. The contract is to provide training for the new release of "GM Online One" -- a global, company-wide upgrade from Microsoft(R) Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, and an upgrade from Microsoft(R) Office 6.0 to 7.0. "New Horizons of Michigan is extremely pleased to partner with General Motors to accomplish such a large scale project of upgrading more than 90,000 desktop computers worldwide," said Mark McManus Jr., president of New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Michigan. "With our highly flexible and comprehensive training courses, we intend to help GM ensure a smooth transition as they upgrade their systems." General Motors decided to upgrade its Windows and Microsoft Office applications in order to take advantage of the later versions' program enhancements. Through the efforts of General Motors University, the company's internal educational facility, GM's Information Systems and Services department, and GM Worldwide Purchasing, a request for proposal was issued to several vendors. New Horizons of Michigan was selected as the supplier of choice based on quality, service, technology and price to deliver training on a global basis. "We are extremely pleased with New Horizons of Michigan's quality of service and wide range of training classes," said Joe Lentini, GM Worldwide Purchasing Manager for Global Training. "This upgrade is an extensive undertaking and is very important to GM because it will allow us to improve our productivity worldwide. We feel we've chosen a solid computer education partner who can truly deliver and will make the transition a positive experience." "While upgrading our systems is a major step in the process, without the proper training, we've only won half the battle," said Shelly Matewicz, Manager of General Motors University Administration. "Working with New Horizons of Michigan means we've invested not only in our equipment, but in our employees." The majority of the training will take place at New Horizons' state-of- the-art facilities. New Horizons of Michigan, a franchise of New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Inc. of Santa Ana, California, will rely on its sister franchises to provide training outside of Michigan. There are currently more than 240 New Horizons franchises worldwide. The training, which has already begun, will allow GM the flexibility to send employees for training on an as-needed basis. "With our training efforts thus far, we have already experienced a mutually beneficial relationship with the world's largest automaker. As such, we look forward to a highly successful, long-term partnership with GM," McManus said. New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Michigan offers high quality, desktop and technical computer training at its six state-of-the-art locations, including: Detroit, East Lansing, Grand Rapids, Livonia (headquarters), Southfield, and Troy.
