Allied Holdings' Axis Group Announces New Contract With BMWDECATUR, Ga., June 28 -- Allied Holdings, Inc. announced today that Axis Group, a wholly owned subsidiary, has been awarded a contract to provide its Kar-Tainer(R) exterior loading cassette system for containerized international shipment of BMW 3 Series automobiles. Axis, in association with Mediterranean Shipping Company, has been awarded the contract to ship BMW 3 series vehicles manufactured in South Africa to various right-hand drive countries including the United Kingdom. These vehicles will be shipped from BMW's Rosslyn, South Africa plant. BMW imports parts for vehicle manufacturing from Germany in standard 40-foot ocean containers. These containers are used with the Kar-Tainer exterior loading cassette system for the outbound transportation of the built-up vehicles. Axis will provide cassettes, which are manufactured at its facility in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and will be responsible for the loading process at the BMW facility in Rosslyn, South Africa. Approximately 5,000 vehicles will be shipped through the end of the year; volumes for ensuing years are unconfirmed at this time.
