Porsche AG Awards Emery Worldwide 'Dealer Direct' Contract for North America
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--June 28, 1999--Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, the celebrated sports car manufacturer, has awarded its North America "Dealer Direct" contract to Emery Worldwide, a global cargo transportation company. The contract, open-ended in duration, is expected to generate more than $1-million in revenue over the next 12 months.
Under the agreement, Emery will handle the door-to-door delivery of between 80 and 100 automotive related shipments per day, including Vehicle Off Road (VOR) spare parts, from the Porsche manufacturing plant in Stuttgart to more than 700 dealers and distributors throughout the United States and Canada. It is expected that Emery will handle some 9,000 to 10,000 Porsche shipments by May next year.
Emery, which has had a long-standing and successful association with Porsche AG, was selected over two other major service providers following the German car manufacturer's policy of putting all logistics and transportation service contracts out to competitive bid.
Emery uses dedicated vehicles to transport shipments from the Porsche factory in Stuttgart to its European hub in Brussels, Belgium to connect with the company's trans-Atlantic freighter, facilitating overnight express delivery to Emery's North American Sortation Center in Dayton, Ohio.
From Dayton, Emery transports all shipments for final `Dealer Direct' delivery via its North American air and surface distribution network. Prior to arriving in the United States, all customs clearance requirements are processed and coordinated by Emery Customs Brokers using Emery's "Image Processing" system to speed the flow of shipments.
All shipments will be benchmark monitored by both Porsche's United States regional headquarters in Atlanta, Ga., and its main logistics facility in Reno, Nevada, with Emery providing monthly performance reports.
James Symons, Emery's vice president of Global Sales -- Europe, commented, "This prestigious project, which reinforces our long-standing partnership with Porsche and further endorses our leading position in the premier service sector, has been won because of the expertise of our European-based automotive industry specialists working closely with Emery's international sales team in Germany."
Porsche, one of the world's most recognized car manufacturers, marked its 50th anniversary last year and has produced more than one million cars since 1948.
