New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Awarded General Motors Global Training Contract
SANTA ANA, Calif.--June 28, 1999--New Horizons Computer Learning Centers has been awarded a major contract from General Motors Corp. to provide computer training to more than 20,000 GM employees annually on the new release of "GM Online One" -- a global, companywide upgrade from Microsoft(R) Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 and an upgrade from Microsoft(R) Office 6.0 to 7.0."We have been extremely pleased with New Horizons' quality of service and wide range of training classes in the past," said Joe Lentini, GM worldwide purchasing manager for Global Training.
"This upgrade is an extensive undertaking and is very important to GM because it will allow us to improve our productivity worldwide. We feel we've chosen a solid computer education partner that can truly deliver and will make the transition a positive experience for our employees."
New Horizons Computer Learning Centers was selected based on quality, service, technology and consistent worldwide pricing.
"New Horizons is delighted to work with General Motors to ensure a smooth transition to their new software standard," said Chuck Kinch, president, New Horizons. "Our Michigan locations have built an outstanding relationship with GM, laying the foundation for a training roll-out that will leverage our network of worldwide locations."
General Motors decided to upgrade its Windows and Microsoft Office applications in order to take advantage of the later versions' program enhancements. Through the efforts of General Motors University, the company's internal educational facility, GM's Information Systems and Services department, and GM Worldwide Purchasing, a request for proposal was issued to several vendors.
"While upgrading our systems is a major step in the process, without the proper training, we would only win half the battle," said Shelly Matewicz, manager of General Motors University Administration. "Working with New Horizons means we're investing not only in our equipment, but in our employees."
GM will upgrade more than 90,000 desktop computers worldwide. The training, which has already begun, will allow GM the flexibility to send employees for training on an as-needed basis. The majority of training will take place at New Horizons facilities in Detroit, near GM corporate headquarters, with additional training being conducted in more than 150 other New Horizons locations around the world.
"GM is not only the world's largest auto maker, it is a leader in employee training. With our efforts thus far, we have already experienced a great relationship, and look forward to continuing a highly successful and long-term partnership," said Mark McManus Jr., owner of New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Michigan.
