NHRA Federal-Mogul Series; Delmar, Del., Final Results

29 June 1999

MANZO RULES DELMAR

DELMAR, Del. - Reigning NHRA Federal-Mogul Funny Car national
champion Frank Manzo doesn't lose often at U.S. 13 Dragway in Delmar, Del.,
and Sunday didn't offer any changes to the form book. Facing Melinda
Green-King in the final round Manzo drove his Kendall-sponsored Dodge
Avenger to the winner's circle with a 5.986-second run his third victory in
as many years at the popular track.
The win came eight days after the event began. One week earlier
rain forced track and NHRA officials to cancel the race after the
completion of qualifying; Manzo led the qualifying sheets with a
5.919-second lap, then used a 6.129-second run to hold off semifinal
opponent Craig English.
Michael Bartone claimed Federal-Mogul Dragster honors, defeating
Rich McPhillips in the final round. McPhillips, the No. 8 qualifier, beat
pole-sitter Jeanie Booz in round one, but was no match for Bartone, who
recorded a winning 5.846-second run.
