25 June 1999

BMW Team PTG notes: practice day, June 25
American Le Mans Series Grand Prix at Mosport (International Raceway)
race three, American Le Mans Series

fast practice

BMW Team PTG topped the GT field during Friday's practice for
the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix at Mosport International
Raceway. Hans Stuck was quickest in class in the #10 BMW M3
four-door, with a time of one minute 24.180 seconds at an
average lap speed of 105.16 miles per hour on the 2.459-mile
road course. German Christian Menzel is substituting for Boris
Said as Stuck's co-driver this weekend.

Brian Cunningham and Johannes van Overbeek had the third-
fastest GT time in the #7 M3 (1:25.053, 104.08 mph). Mark Simo
and Peter Cunningham were fourth in the #6 M3 coupe (1:25.347,
103.72 mph).

Peter Cunningham, driver, #6 BMW M3

"It's always a challenge here, every lap. Our car is feeling very
consistent right now, so I think we'll have a really good car for
Sunday. I wish that we could get a little more out of it in qualifying
trim, but I think that we're going to be just fine in race trim. The
challenge is doing a perfect lap when the tires are at their peak.
You can overachieve or you can be right there. If we don't get a
perfect lap right when the tires are at their best, we're going to be
off a tick. But what matters is how the car is for the long run here,
and I'm very pleased with where we're at there."

Hans Stuck, driver, #10 BMW M3

"We're getting more and more in the groove. Traffic was not a big
issue and I'm happy with the car. I'm happy with my new team-
mate. He's getting better and better and better. He's no longer
intimidated by faster cars and we're looking good."

Christian Menzel, driver, #10 BMW M3

"My feeling at the moment is much better [than Thursday]. I feel at
home. I must say thank you to Hans. He gave me so many tips
and it was for me so much easier to learn, and that is fantastic!
The car is good, the feeling is good, the team is very nice. At the
moment I'm happy and I'm sure I can learn more from practice to
practice. That is my target."
