AAA's VIA Magazine Launches Oregon/Idaho Edition; San Francisco-Based Publication Sprouts New Regional Edition

SAN FRANCISCO--June 24, 1999--VIA -- a recreation and leisure travel magazine published in San Francisco -- is expanding with a new edition for AAA members in Oregon and Idaho.
Debuting in September, VIA Oregon/Idaho will reach 350,000 AAA member households, giving it the largest circulation of any regional magazine serving Oregon and Idaho.
The new publication is a separate edition of VIA magazine, which serves 2.6 million AAA member households in Northern California, Nevada and Utah and has the twentieth largest circulation in America. Both magazines will be published in San Francisco by AAA.
"AAA members trust VIA to deliver travel information they can use, and that's exactly what we plan to do with VIA Oregon/Idaho," said VIA Editor Bruce Anderson.
VIA Oregon/Idaho will have several of its own specially edited regular features for Oregon and Idaho travelers that emphasize regional and outdoor recreation and leisure, and historic destinations. The two magazines will share some editorial content, such as articles on leisure travel -- both regional and international.
VIA Oregon/Idaho premieres with its 60-page September/October issue. The first issue will feature articles on an emerging wine region in Oregon by noted author David Darlington and a comparison of the new Venetian hotel and casino in Las Vegas to its namesake city in Italy. Other stories include an inside look at social hosts aboard cruise ships and sites for bird watching in the Northwest.
The four-color magazine replaces two bimonthly tabloids, Idaho Motorist and Oregon Motorist, which ran 12 pages each and were published by AAA Oregon/Idaho.

Established nearly 100 years ago, the AAA affiliate of Northern California, Nevada and Utah serves 4 million members with an array of automotive, travel, insurance and financial services. The California State Automobile Association is the second largest regional affiliate of the national AAA organization.
