Eaton Corporation to Sponsor 1999 Woodward Dream Cruise
CLEVELAND--(AutomotiveWire)--June 23, 1999--Eaton Corporation today announced the signing of an agreement to sponsor the 1999 Woodward Dream Cruise, an event held each summer in Detroit to celebrate cars and car culture. Now in its fifth year, the 1999 Woodward Dream Cruise will be held on Saturday, August 21, 1999, and is billed as the largest one-day automotive event in the world."For Eaton, the Woodward Dream Cruise represents the opportunity to affiliate with a fun, family event that celebrates Detroit's love affair with cars," said Robert J. McCloskey, senior vice president and group executive -- Automotive. "In just five years the Woodward Dream Cruise has grown into an eagerly anticipated annual event that helps raise money for more than 40 local charities. It's exactly the type of event that Eaton likes to associate with, and I think Eaton is the type of company that the Woodward Dream Cruise wants to associate with.
"Beyond our many years of innovative work in the automotive industry, we have a rich heritage of community involvement and investment, and our first commitment is to the cities, towns and villages where our employees live and work," said McCloskey. "We support programs that strengthen the community and help those with limited resources. We support institutions that aid education and help prepare students for careers in engineering. And we support programs and institutions that enhance the quality of life. There's no doubt in our minds that cars enhance the quality of life, and there's no better way to celebrate that than at an event like the Woodward Dream Cruise."
"We are excited and pleased to have Eaton as our sponsor for the 1999 Woodward Dream Cruise," said Jean Chamberlain, South Oakland Government Liaison and president of the Woodward Dream Cruise Board of Directors. "As the Woodward Dream Cruise has grown, many companies have gotten involved with the event on a limited basis. Eaton is the first company to step into a major sponsorship role, and we welcome their support because the company is well known in the auto industry and has a great reputation for community involvement. We hope this is the beginning of a lasting, long-term relationship."
The Woodward Dream Cruise, now in its fifth year, last year drew 1.1 million people and 15,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom and collector cars to the Motor City. The event is held along a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue, the famous Detroit Boulevard where the first car in North America was driven in 1896 and where "cruisers" showcased their cars in the '50s and '60s. The event runs through the communities of Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods, Berkley, Royal Oak, Birmingham and Pontiac.
