Superior Industries International Wins Aluminum Suspension Components Supply Contract

VAN NUYS, Calif.--June 22, 1999--Superior Industries International, Inc. announced today that it has won an important contract to supply aluminum suspension components for a major global automotive manufacturer.
"This is a gratifying and important contract win for Superior that moves us forward in our plan to build our position in the emerging non-wheel aluminum automotive components market, a market that industry sources estimate may become a multi-billion dollar opportunity over the next few years. This contract has significant follow-on potential for additional models produced by this customer," a company spokesman said.
Under the contract, Superior will manufacture aluminum front upper control arm/bracket assemblies for a 2002 model year automobile. Shipments are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2001.
"Our customer's engineers determined that light weight aluminum control arm/bracket assemblies reduce vibration and improve ride and handling compared to traditional steel components," the spokesman added. "More and more automotive manufacturers are committed to taking advantage of these weight and performance advantages by increasing the aluminum content of their products.
"As a global leader in the design and manufacture of cast and forged aluminum automotive components, Superior is well positioned to benefit from this new growth opportunity. We are working hard to win additional contracts for our wheel and non-wheel aluminum automotive products."
Superior supplies aluminum wheels and other aluminum components to Ford, General Motors, Chrysler de Mexico, BMW, Volkswagen and Audi as well as various Japanese auto manufacturers including Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and Isuzu. The Company is also a leading manufacturer of accessory products for the national automotive aftermarket.
