Toyota Motor Sales-USA Announces Key Changes

TORRANCE, Calif., June 21 -- Numerous promotions and key organizational changes at Toyota Motor Sales -- USA (TMS) were announced here today. All will be effective July 1. "This announcement is part of a continuing series of changes that reflect Toyota's accelerating growth in the U.S., our need to carefully plan succession as key members of senior management retire, and our need to alter our structure to deal with new business opportunities and imperatives," said TMS President Yoshio Ishizaka. Promotions and organizational changes within the Toyota and Lexus field sales operations will be announced separately at a later date. Group Vice President David Danzer, currently vice president of Strategic and Product Planning, was promoted to Group Vice President with no change in duties. Shankar Basu, currently vice president of Sales and Operations at Toyota Industrial Equipment (TIE), was promoted to group vice president and general manager of TIE. Bob Daly, currently vice president of Toyota Logistics Services (TLS) was promoted to group vice president of Customer Services Division (CSD). Vice President Robert Waltz, currently corporate manager of Field Operations for the Customer Service Division (CSD), was promoted to vice president of Service Operations at CSD. Brian Eyres, currently assistant general counsel, was promoted to vice president of Product Law. Alan Cohen, currently general counsel of Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC) was promoted to vice president and general counsel of TMCC. James Byers, currently general manager of Toyota Division's Los Angeles region, was promoted to vice president of TLS. Robert Weldon, currently executive vice president of Toyota De Puerto Rico (TDPR) was promoted to president of TDPR with no change in duties. Ken Goltara was promoted from corporate manager to vice president of Business Systems Development. Lloyd Mistele, currently vice president Finance and Affiliated Companies was appointed vice president -- Treasury for TMCC, succeeding Jerome Lienhard, who has accepted a position with the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation in Washington, D.C. Corporate Manager Edward Ohlin, currently national manager of product planning was promoted to corporate manager with no change in duties. Ernest Bastien, currently national marketing planning manager, was promoted to corporate vehicle marketing manager. Randy Bauer, was promoted from national to corporate manager of the Information Systems Program Management Office. Mary Montague, currently national manager of Human Resources, was promoted to corporate manager of Organization Development. Marian Duntley, currently national manager of Customs, was promoted to corporate manager with no change in duties. Joanne VanEmburgh, currently managing counsel, was promoted to assistant general counsel. Charles Ing was promoted from national to corporate manager of Government Relations. And Earl Quist was promoted from national to corporate manager of Industry Relations. Organizational Changes Douglas West, senior vice president and chief administrative officer, will assume additional responsibility for Legal Affairs and Risk Management. Dian Ogilvie, group vice president and general counsel, will assume additional responsibility for Risk Management. Robert Pitts, currently group vice president, Finance and Administration, is appointed group vice president of Finance and Business Services, reporting directly to TMS Senior Vice President and Treasurer Chiaki Yamaguchi. J. Davis Illingworth, senior vice president of Planning & Development, will assume additional responsibility for a newly formed e-commerce unit tasked with coordinating and integrating TMS' internet business strategy. A Business Planning unit tasked with overseeing a streamlined and strategic business planning process to assure prioritization and proper allocation of resources also will be formed under Illingworth's direction. John Turmell, senior vice president of the Customer Service Group, will assume additional responsibility for TIE. Richard Gallio, currently Group Vice President of TIE, will assume new responsibilities as Group Vice President for Marine, Aviation and Toyota Logistics Services. Don Esmond, group vice president of Toyota Division, will assume additional responsibility for Sales Support, including the Corporate Fleet, Market Representation and Distribution departments. A Prius Vehicle Group directed by National Manager Mark Amstock will be formed in the Market Planning Department, signaling the pre-launch "mainstreaming" of Toyota's advanced hybrid vehicle. Jim Olson, senior vice president of External Affairs, will assume additional responsibility for Regulatory Affairs. George Borst, senior vice president of TMCC and Toyota Motor Insurance Services, and Illingworth will join incoming TMS President Yoshimi Inaba, TMS Executive Vice President James Press, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Doug West, Senior Vice President and Treasurer Chiaki Yamaguchi, and Yuki Funo, senior vice President and Chief Coordinating Officer, on the TMS Executive Committee. This reflects the growing size and importance of TMCC and the growing role of corporate planning in the proper alignment of Toyota's structure and resources to the changing marketplace.
