American Axle & Manufacturing Presents Supplier Recognition Awards

American Axle & Manufacturing Presents Eight Suppliers with Supplier Recognition Awards
    DETROIT, June 21 -- American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc.
announced today its selection of eight key suppliers to receive
1999 AAM Supplier Recognition Awards.  The awards were presented at
American Axle & Manufacturing's (AAM's) sixth annual Supplier Day held
Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Focus:HOPE in Detroit.  This is the third year AAM
has presented the awards to its suppliers.  Recipients were:

    Supplier Excellence Awards

    --  Alberici Construction Company, which provides construction and project
        management services to AAM's Guanajuato Gear & Axle and
        Detroit Gear & Axle plants.

    --  Torrington Company, which provides roller bearings to the
        Detroit Gear & Axle and Buffalo Gear & Axle plants.

    --  Hofley Manufacturing, which provides front suspension and control arms
        to the Detroit Gear & Axle Plant.

    --  Ispat Inland Bar Steel Company, which provides bar steel to the
        Detroit Forge and Tonawanda Forge plants.  This is the second time
        Inland has received this award from AAM.

    --  Parker Motor Freight, which provides transportation services to the
        Detroit Gear & Axle Plant.

    --  Sterling Supply, which provides perishable cutting tools to the
        Three Rivers, Buffalo Gear and Axle and Guanajuato Gear & Axle plants
        and also to Albion Automotive, AAM's Scotland-based subsidiary.
        Sterling Supply is also a previous award winner.

    --  Toyoda Manufacturing USA, which provides machining and grinding
        equipment to the Buffalo Gear & Axle and the Detroit Gear & Axle
        plants.

        Supplier Technology Award (new category added this year)

    --  Wheland Foundry, which provides castings, drums, rotors, differential
        cases, and gray and ductile iron to the Detroit Gear & Axle and
        Buffalo Gear & Axle plants.

    David J. Demos, AAM vice president, Procurement, and host of the 1999 AAM
Supplier Day noted, "These suppliers have met AAM's highest standards in
certified quality, on-time delivery, technology, service, problem resolution,
innovation and initiative."
