TACH: The BEST Auto Racing Site
19 June 1999
Yahoo! Internet Life Magazine Cites THE AUTO CHANNEL for Having "Incredible" and "Fantastic" Content Sometimes hard work and tireless effort does pay off. Like when someone sits up and takes notice of what you've accomplished. Such is the case in the July issue of Yahoo! Internet Life, a leading new media Ziff-Davis publication. The July issue features Yahoo! Internet Life's Gold Star Sport Sites; their picks for the Internet's top sports related websites. The Auto Channel is named the BEST AUTO RACING SITE. Other notable Gold Star winners are ESPN.com, for Best Sports Hub; NHL.com, for Best Hockey Site; and CBS.Sportsline.com, for Best Football Site. Specifically, the review of The Auto Channel Internetwork states: "What's auto racing without the highlights? With up-to-the-minute reports coming in continuously on its Motorsports Wire, and an incredible array of streaming video at your fingertips, The Auto Channel should be at the top of any racing enthusiast's list of favorites. It's extremely well organized: You can search by driver name, circuit, and track. And because it's not just a racing site, there plenty of room for such extras as fantastic video archives for the auto enthusiast. View factory footage of Chevy's latest models, and check out industry shows. Or put the pedal to the metal and take in adrenaline soaked drag racing cybercasts."" Bob Gordon, TACH's president, was particularly pleased with the assessment. "We've been a prime proponent for the use of streaming media, especially video, on the Internet since we went on line in January 1996. We pioneered live video and audio motor sports broadcasts, were the first to introduce a new vehicle live on the Internet, the first to present regularly scheduled automotive TV and radio shows, the first to do live broadcasts from major automotive expositions, and the first to offer consumers the opportunity to watch factory footage of new vehicles for each of the last 4 model years." Gordon then added, "Now that high speed connectivity is becoming more and more ubiquitous, and our vision of 'TV on the Net' is becoming an accepted reality, it's ironic that our achievements in this area have been somewhat drowned-out by all the noise being made on Wall Street by companies like Broadcast.com, Intervu.com, Globix.com, and RealNetworks.com. But The Auto Channel used streaming video before them...before it was cool..., and we're probably the single largest producer and user of subject-specific streaming video on the Internet. Most importantly, we know how to make it work, everytime, and no one knows how to deploy it better than us. It's great that the folks at Yahoo! Internet Life have acknowledged this and recognize the significance of video content." Currently, The Auto Channel has nearly 1,000 streaming video programs available for on-demand access by Internet users all over the world, many in near-broadcast quality 200kbs format. Some individual programs are 4 and even 5 hours in length. In addition to TACH's vast library of streaming media content, visitors to The Auto Channel will find the Internet's largest collection of new vehicle reviews; 16 searchable databases, which include the most accurate and comprehensive price guides; and an amazing four car compar-a-graph, that allows you to simultaneously compare up to 4 vehicles head-to-head in over 150 categories.
