HighwayMaster Places 50,000th Unit in Service At Verspeeten Cartage

    DALLAS--June 16, 1999--HighwayMaster Communications, Inc. , the leading provider of wireless voice and data communications services to the commercial trucking and service vehicle industries, today announced that its HighwayMaster Corporation subsidiary has placed its 50,000th Series 5000 mobile communications unit in service. The HighwayMaster customer making the landmark investment is Verspeeten Cartage Ltd.
    The Series 5000 provides both voice and data communications, together with precise positioning through GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) data and offers several other optional enhancements. EngineMaster(TM) enables operators and drivers to capture engine performance information for monitoring and managing fuel economy, idle time, engine abuse, gear usage, and driver performance. MileMaster(R) provides a turnkey automated fuel tax reporting solution that meets IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) and IRP (International Registration Plan) reporting guidelines. Rolling ETA(R) provides the industry's only real-time, on-board estimated time of arrival technology.
