Cummins Engine Co. Names Kelly Vice President - Worldwide Midrange Operations

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--June 15, 1999--Cummins Engine Co., Inc., a major worldwide producer of diesel engines, has named Jim D. Kelly Vice President - Worldwide Midrange Operations, replacing Frank J. McDonald, who recently was named Vice President - Quality. Kelly, currently Vice President -- Industrial Marketing, will be responsible for leading the company's efforts to develop and build midrange engines that meet the requirements of Cummins' worldwide customer base.
    "Jim brings to this new role a background of exceptional contribution in human resources, manufacturing and marketing," said F. Joseph Loughrey, Executive Vice President and Group President - Industrial, in announcing Kelly's appointment. "As part of his responsibilities, Jim will also give functional leadership to Cummins plants outside of the U.S. that build midrange engines or produce midrange parts."
    Kelly joined the company in 1976 after receiving a Masters degree in labor and industrial relations from Cornell University. His career includes assignments as Director of Personnel for Corporate Marketing and service as Plant Manager of Cummins' Charleston, Jamestown and Columbus Engine Plants. In 1993 he was named Vice President - Heavy Duty/High Horsepower Manufacturing, and in 1996, he became Vice President - Worldwide Manufacturing for the Automotive Business. He moved to the Industrial Business Unit in 1997 as Vice President - Industrial Marketing.
