Chicago Map Pairs Innovative Mapping Technology with Canadian Road Data

Chicago Map Corporation Pairs Innovative Mapping Technology with the Best Canadian Road Data Available

CHICAGO--June 15, 1999--Chicago Map Corporation is pleased to announce the release of MapOCX (Canada), a unique toolkit that allows developers to quickly and easily integrate high-quality electronic map displays of Canadian provinces, cities and communities into Windows(R) visual environment applications.
"Until now, developers who needed to access and display Canadian maps were required to obtain high-cost data from a variety of third-party sources, build their own map engine and then develop the application," says Chicago Map President and CEO, Steven Peskaitis. "With MapOCX (Canada), developers get an integrated package that already includes the most current database available of Canadian provincial highways and expressways, as well as local and regional roads for most communities. The self-contained data means better quality and faster redraw for images. Programmers also retain total flexibility in creating a customized interface."
In addition to its comprehensive road data, MapOCX (Canada) delivers waterways, airport locations, province and city boundaries, landmarks, railway lines and other geographic points of interest in an easy-to-reference format.
With this information, developers can dramatically reduce the time it takes to import map displays and create applications for a wide spectrum of markets. Uses include recovery of stolen-vehicles, tracking mobile material assets, database analysis, general map referencing, creating routes and much more.
After a rigorous selection process, Chicago Map chose the CanMap(R) database to pair with its own proprietary map display technology. Created by Desktop Mapping Technologies Inc. (DMTI), the CanMap(R) database offers the most accurate and comprehensive map database of any Canadian provider.
"Chicago Map's OCX technology, bundled with DMTI's precision-built map data, offers users a powerful development tool kit for creating applications that require high-quality Canadian maps," said John M. Fisher, President of Desktop Mapping Technologies. "This important alliance opens up new markets for DMTI's data and makes available a powerful GIS-based developer solution for a whole new class of end-user."
Depending on their development needs, customers can purchase MapOCX (Canada) along with any of five different regional data sets: British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, The Prairies Region (includes road data for the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba), and The Atlantic Region (street data coverage for the provinces of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island).
MapOCX (Canada) is designed for programmers operating in a 32-bit Windows(R)-based development environment. Supported development languages include Visual C++, Borland C++ Builder, Visual Basic, Delphi, and Power Builder.
MapOCX (Canada) is available directly from Chicago Map or through one of its authorized resellers. Developed application must be licensed through Chicago Map's licensing department prior to distribution.
