Toyota Reports All-Time Best-Ever Certified Used Vehicle Sales for Fourth-Consecutive Month

    TORRANCE, Calif., June 14 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS),
U.S.A., Inc., reported today the best-ever month in Toyota Certified Used
Vehicle sales history for the fourth-consecutive month.  It also is the first
time the program has sold more than 11,000 units in one month.
    May sales of Toyota Certified Used Vehicles totaled 11,474, an increase of
34.4 percent compared to May 1998.  Calendar-year-to-date sales total 47,012,
up 28.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
    "Our sales momentum is incredible, generating four consecutive months of
record-breaking sales," said Guillermo Hysaw, TMS corporate manager, used
vehicle operations department.  "Consumers have obviously discovered the
benefits of purchasing a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle and the program is
growing at an unprecedented rate."
    The Toyota Used Vehicle program, established in 1996, provides the best
pre-owned warranty in the industry.  The warranty, from date of first use,
includes six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage, as well as an optional
comprehensive 100,000-mile vehicle service agreement.  And, 24-hour roadside
assistance also is provided free of charge for one year.
    All 1995-1999 Toyota models with less than 55,000 miles are eligible for
the program.  Prior to sale, each vehicle receives a rigorous 128-point
inspection of all mechanical and safety functions, as well as overall
appearance considerations.
