Dana Corporation Receives Ohio Excellence in Exporting AwardTOLEDO, Ohio, June 11 -- Dana Corporation was recognized for its successes in the global marketplace by Ohio Governor Bob Taft at a luncheon held in Columbus today. Taft presented Dana with the Governor's Excellence in Exporting Award ("E" Award). "Dana recognizes the opportunities present in the global market, as well as the importance of seizing those opportunities," said Tony Shelbourn, vice president and general manager, Dana World Trade. "One of the benefits of expanding our presence in global markets is the potential to expand employment opportunities wherever Dana operations are located." Part of Dana's strategic plan "Beyond 2000" calls for the company to obtain 50 percent of its total sales from outside the United States. In 1998, 41 percent of Dana's gross sales were to countries other than the United States. Taft said he is committed to encouraging all Ohio companies to take advantage of the world marketplace. "In doing so, I am confident our firms will find the success and benefits that today's 'E' Award winners have found through their international trade efforts." The Governor's Excellence in Exporting Award annually recognizes Ohio companies that have increased sales and Ohio-based employment as a result of export activity, or have developed and implemented a strategy to expand international sales. Dana Corporation is one of the world's largest independent suppliers to vehicle manufacturers and their related aftermarkets. Founded in 1904 and based in Toledo, Ohio, the company operates some 330 major facilities in 32 countries and employs more than 86,000 people. The company reported sales of $12.5 billion in 1998.
