Caliber Collision Centers Acquires Premier Autobody in Round Rock, Texas; Enters Austin Market

IRVINE, Calif--(AutomotiveWire)--June 10, 1999--Caliber Collision Centers, an Irvine-based operator of high-quality collision repair facilities in California and Texas, Thursday announced the completed acquisition of Premier Autobody in Round Rock, Texas.
The acquisition represents the company's entry into the Austin marketplace, enabling it to significantly increase its market penetration, production capacity, and service coverage in Texas, the second largest automobile market in the United States. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"By acquiring Premier Autobody, Caliber entered a new market in Texas, filling a void between our Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio centers," said Doug Boazman, vice president, Texas Operations for Caliber Collision Centers.
"Austin is key in our growth strategy for Texas and is a market which we plan to grow to improve our coverage in the state and to meet the demands of our insurance partners."
Earlier this month, Caliber acquired Body Shops of America, a 50,000 square-foot center in West Fort Worth. Consistent with its plans to become the largest operator of collision repair centers in Texas, the company plans to continue acquiring high-quality centers throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin markets in addition to building several new locations before the end of the year.
Premier Autobody, founded in 1986 by Dave and Bob Hamby, is an 18,000 square-foot facility that provides foreign and domestic paint and collision repair and factory precision "unibody" repair.
"During the past 14 years, we have focused on quality and customer satisfaction to create one of the outstanding collision repair centers in Austin," said Dave Hamby.
"However, we recognized that consolidation in our industry would bring even more far-reaching benefits to our customers and insurers. After speaking with several other collision repair consolidators, we believed that Caliber offered comprehensive benefits for our employees not offered by the others, and the opportunity to incorporate new technologies and production systems that would greatly decrease our repair cycle times while increasing overall quality."
Bob and Dave Hamby will assist in the transition of the facility to a Caliber Center with Bob Hamby assuming the role of Center Manager.
