Subaru Joins Industry in Support of Trunk Safety; Company Takes Action to Help Prevent Trunk Entrapment
CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 8 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA)
announced today its support of the National SAFE KIDS Campaign to help prevent
trunk entrapment. In a news conference held earlier today, advocates of the
National SAFE KIDS Campaign spoke of the need for trunk safety measures and
called for automotive manufacturers' support.
Subaru, in response to this request, plans to offer retrofit kits for
1995-2000 Subaru sedan models. The kits will be available in August 2000 and
can be installed by any authorized Subaru dealer for a nominal fee. SOA will
also incorporate installation of inside trunk release latches into production
on all its new sedan models by December 2000.
Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy
Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company
markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a
network of nearly 600 franchised dealers across the United States. All Legacy
models sold in the U.S., including the Outback and Outback Sedan, are produced
at the company's American manufacturing plant, Subaru-Isuzu Automotive, Inc.,
near Lafayette, Ind.
