Starting positions 1-25 will be determined by time trials (2 laps), positions 26-29 will be available to any of the top 30 eligible drivers in the 1999 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring Championship point standings, who have entered the event, but have not qualified for one of the original 25 starting positions. The 30th starting position will be assigned to any Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring Champion driver who participated as a driver in the 1998 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring and who did not qualify for one of the original 25 starting positions, provided eligible driver attempts to qualify. If a starting position(s) remains unfilled, then that starting position(s) will become available to the next eligible car from the qualifying procedure for this event. This is the first race of the second half of the 1999 season and is the fourth race in a five-race, five-week stretch. Racing action at Lanier is always fast and furious and things can happen in a hurry on the 0.375-mile oval. 1998 REVIEW: Bud Pole Award winner Hal Goodson led the first 10 laps before Dalton, Ga.'s Bobby Gill muscled his way to the front. Gill led until Freddie Query took over on lap 78. Query then proceeded to lead the rest of the race enroute to a $9,200 payday. Goodson finished second ahead of Billy Bigley, Jr., Derrick Gilchrist and Toby Porter. Twelve cars finished on the lead lap while 22 of the 30 starters were running when the checkered flag waved. There were 10 caution periods spanning 72 laps and the race was run in one hour 17 minutes, 25 seconds at an average speed of 62.312 mph. Speed : Freddie Query, Mooresville, N.C., Chevrolet, 58 mins., 29 secs., 9/5/98 NOTES OF INTEREST · Mike Miller, Donnie Bishop, Mike Garvey, Freddie Query, Toby Porter, Wayne Willard, Gary Jones, Mike Cope, Steven Christian, Wayne Anderson and Derrick Gilchrist have all won races at Lanier National Speedway. When Query won this event one year ago he became the first driver from this elite group to earn a second win at the Braselton, Ga. oval. · Eleven drivers have earned Bud Pole positions at Lanier. Those drivers are Steve Holzhausen, Randy Porter, Casey Elliott, Scott Sutherland, Bobby Gill, Shane Hall, Mike Garvey, Tammy Jo Kirk, John Crow, Jimmy Garmon and Hal Goodson. All of the aforementioned drivers have earned one pole position with the exception of Kirg and Goodson who have each won two. · A pit stop contest will be held prior to the running of the Greeson/Horton Homes 200. Top Slim Jim All Pro Series teams will be gunning for the cash prize and bragging rights. · Sixteen-year-old Jason Hogan and Lawrenceville, Ga.'s Jimmy Garmon are two regular participants from Lanier's Super Late Model ranks that will be attempting to qualify for the Greeson/Horton Homes 200. STAT OF THE WEEK: Darlington, S.C.'s Hal Goodson swept the Bud Pole Awards in both races contested at Lanier last year. In July Goodson toured the 0.375-mile oval in 13.880 seconds. In September it took him one/one thousandth's of a second longer, 13.881 seconds.
