1999 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring, Race Facts

WHERE:	Myrtle Beach Speedway, Myrtle Beach, S.C., 0.538-mile oval
WHEN:	Saturday, June 12, 8:00 p.m.
DISTANCE:	250 laps (134.5 miles)
POSTED AWARDS:	$46,100 (including $2,900 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR
Touring Championship point fund money.)
TV/RADIO:	None

FIELD:  30 cars.  Starting positions 1-25 will be determined by time trials
(2 laps), positions 26-29 will be available to any of the top 30 eligible
drivers in the 1999 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring Championship
point standings, who have entered the event, but have not qualified for one
of the original 25 starting positions.  The 30th starting position will be
assigned to any Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring Champion driver who
participated as a driver in the 1998 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring
and who did not qualify for one of the original 25 starting positions,
provided eligible driver attempts to qualify.  If a starting position(s)
remains unfilled, then that starting position(s) will become available to
the next eligible car from the qualifying procedure for this event.

THE RACE:  The 7 Up 250 is the eighth of 16 races on the 1999 Slim Jim All
Pro Series, NASCAR Touring schedule, representing the completion of one half
of the 1999 season.  This event is always a thorough test of a Slim Jim All
Pro Series team's mettle as endurance, pit strategy and racing luck all come
into play.

1998 REVIEW:  Eventual 1998 Slim Jim All Pro Series National Champion
Freddie Query earned a hard-fought victory over Hal Goodson.  Query
inherited the lead on lap 196 when 
 leader Ron Young was collected by the spinning car of Conrad Burr.  In
addition to Query and Young, Steve Mendenhall led the race and there were
four drivers on the lead lap at the checkered flag.  Goodson settled for
second ahead of Bobby Gill, David Reutimann and Mardy Lindley.  Query also
grabbed the Bud Pole Award.  Nineteen of the 30 starters were running at the
end of the race while a whopping 44 cars attempted to make the starting field.

NOTES OF INTEREST
· Jody Ridley, Bobby Gill, Purvis, Mike Cope, Toby Porter, Gary St. Amant,
Billy Bigley, Jr., Freddie Query, Ron Young and Wayne Anderson have all won
Slim Jim All Pro Series events at the 0.538-mile oval, with Ridley and Query
having notched two wins each.  Of these previous race winners only Cope,
Bigley, Young and Anderson have filed entries for this event.
· Steve Holzhausen, Robert Powell, the late Casey Elliott, Bobby Gill, Eddie
Goodson, Ron Barfield, Toby Porter, Nipper Alsup and Freddie Query have all
notched Bud Pole Awards at Myrtle Beach.  Powell, a former NASCAR Winston
Racing Series National Champion, has sat on the pole four times at Myrtle Beach.
· For the third consecutive year Slim Jim All Pro Series teams will place
their race cars on display on Friday, June 11at the NASCAR Café and will
sign autographs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
· Coupling Hal Goodson's 16th place finish at Bristol with Wayne Anderson's
runner-up finish Anderson now leads the series point standings, a position
he has not held since his season-opening win at Lakeland, Fla.

STAT OF THE WEEK:  Despite the fact that he considers it his "home track,"
Darlington, S.C.'s Hal Goodson has never won a Slim Jim All Pro Series race
at Myrtle Beach.  He does however have four top five finishes, including a
second place finish in 1998.
