CART: Milwaukee Race Notes, Robby Gordon
7 June 1999
Robby Gordon #22 Johns Manville/Panasonic/Menards Toyota-Swift Race Notes/Quotes -- Sunday, June 6, 1999 Miller Lite 225 Round 7 of 20 in the CART FedEx Championship Series At The Milwaukee Mile - Milwaukee, Wis. Electrical problems forced Robby Gordon and his #22 Johns Manville/Panasonic/Menards Toyota-powered Swift champ car to retire on Lap 82 of today's Miller Lite 225 at the Milwaukee Mile. Gordon started from 23rd on the grid and held his ground through the first round of pit stops at Lap 71. Smoke suddenly began pouring into the cockpit on Lap 82, prompting Gordon to pit while the crew investigated the problem. The car was retired a short time later. The next race on the schedule is the G.I. Joe's Grand Prix at Portland International Raceway in two weeks. Quotes ROBBY GORDON -- "It happened all of a sudden. I was going into a turn and the car started smoking. The throttle also was trying to stick. I'm not sure what the problem was but we couldn't get the car back into the race. It's a shame. It was one of those weekends for us. We'll be back. We're looking forward to getting out on the road courses during this next stretch of the schedule." JOHN MENARD (Team Gordon Co-Owner) -- "What can you say? I think in time we could have gotten the car dialed in. But we never got the chance."
