Detroit's Mayor Archer Proclaims Automotive Interiors Week In Honor of the Automotive & Transportation Interiors Expo and ConferenceDETROIT, June 3 -- Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer has proclaimed the week of June 7 "Automotive Interiors Week" for the City of Detroit in recognition of the Automotive & Transportation Interiors Expo and Conference being held June 8-10 at Cobo Center. "I am pleased to declare the week of June 7, Automotive Interiors Week," said Archer. "I know many of the 250 exhibitor companies in the Automotive & Transportation Interiors Expo work here in the Detroit area. I'm pleased to recognize this event because of its importance to the automotive industry and our local and national economy." The Automotive & Transportation Interiors Expo will feature three days of conferences, technical sessions and exhibits. More than 4,000 auto interiors professionals from around the world are expected to attend. Mayor Archer will open the Expo with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, June 8, at 9:45 a.m. at the main entrance of the Expo. The theme of this year's conference, the sixth annual, is "The Interior Revolution: Materials, Applications and Processes." Conference highlights include international automotive industry experts discussing trends in design, engineering and manufacturing, and the challenges facing the industry. Topics that will be addressed include safety, comfort, interior style, noise-vibration-harshness, electronics, materials and manufacturing. Events held in conjunction with the Expo include the Automotive & Transportation Interiors Golf Classic benefiting design school students; the Seating Solutions Competition (on recycling, a student event); the Automotive & Transportation Interiors Scholarship Awards Banquet, Air Bag '99 Conference; and the Automotive Press Association luncheon roundtable. The APA roundtable event on June 8, themed "The Inside Story on the Future of Automotive Interior Design," features participants from DaimlerChrysler, Ford, GM, Lear, JCI and Magna, all of whom have a strong corporate presence in Detroit.
