Audi Sales up 68 Percent for May and 37.1 Percent Year-to-Date - TT Coupe Now on Sale
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 2 -- Today, Audi of America, Inc.
announced its May sales in the U.S. with 5,459 automobiles sold, a 68 percent
increase over the same month last year when sales were 3,249. These results
mark Audi's best May since 1987 and best year-to-date since 1986 (1999 year-
to-date sales are 22,510 versus 16,417 last year). This accomplishment is a
37.1 percent increase over last year's year-to-date pace.
While sales of each of Audi's model range enjoyed continued strong growth
(A4 up 28 percent, A6 up 60.6 percent, A8 up 41.9 percent) the big news for
the month was the advent of the TT. The first of the TTs -- the birth of
Audi's sports car tradition -- arrived in dealer showrooms in early May. Over
the course of the month, 1,032 of these 2+2 coupes were sold. Only about
4,000 of these pure German sports cars will make their way to the U.S. to be
sold during calendar year 1999.
Audi has displayed this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for
over four years, or 52 of the last 54 months.
