Hyundai Sales Skyrocket 136%; Best in Ten Years - Elantra Sets All-Time Sales Record -

    FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 2 -- Hyundai Motor America
today announced sales of 15,476 vehicles for the month of May.
    "The month of May was our best May in ten years.  We posted a 136%
increase compared to May of last year," said Hyundai Motor America's Vice
President of Sales, Robert Cosmai.
    "Consumers are seeing that Hyundai cars represent an excellent value with
their high level of equipment, very attractive prices and high quality.  They
are also responding to the Hyundai Advantage which they understand is
America's Best Warranty," said Cosmai.
    "Year to date sales are up 46.7 percent compared to 1998.  The Elantra
continues as the volume car line posting 7,400 sales which is an all-time
record month.  Sonata sales continue to climb with a 40% increase over last
year-to-date," Cosmai also noted.
    "What we find especially satisfying is that our retail sales are up 81%
year-to-date.  Our dramatic sales increases are not coming from fleet sales
but from individual customers who are demanding Hyundai cars," said Cosmai.
