BMW Sales Strength Continues with Best May Ever
BMW Year-to-Date Sales Increase 14.5 Percent;
Land Rover Year-to-Date Sales Jump 44 Percent
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., June 2 -- BMW of North America, Inc.
reported strong year-to-date sales of 63,627, a 14.5 percent increase,
compared to 55,560 automobiles sold during the first five months of 1998. BMW
also reported its best May on record with an increase of nearly 12 percent in
monthly sales for 13,594 automobiles, compared to 12,154 a year ago.
Strong sales of the new BMW 3 Series sedans, the 323i and the 328i, fueled
an increase of close to 15 percent in 3 Series sales, paving the way for a
successful introduction of the new 3 Series coupe to the U.S. next month.
Also worth noting are strong sales of the 5 Series range, showing an increase
of 15.8 percent.
Land Rover North America, Inc. reported is best month ever, with May sales
of 2,277 vehicles, compared to 1,937 a year ago, an increase of 17.6 percent.
Year-to-date sales jumped 44 percent, to 10,917 vehicles. Land Rover reported
year-to-date sales of 7,565 a year ago.
Consolidated May sales for the BMW Group totaled 15,871 units
(BMW: 13,594; Land Rover: 2,277) and consolidated year-to-date sales increased
18 percent to 74,544 vehicles (BMW: 63,627; Land Rover 10,917).
