SEMX Corporation Division Announces Award of QS9000 Quality CertificationARMONK, N.Y., June 2 -- Semiconductor Packaging Materials Co. ("SPM"), a division of SEMX Corporation (the "Corporation"), , announced that it has been awarded QS9000 Certification, the prestigious quality standard required by the automotive markets worldwide for Tier I suppliers. This award is given to select companies who can demonstrate to an independent registrar (in this case UL Laboratories Inc.) that they have a quality system in place that not only meets the basic requirements of the ISO 9000 standard, but also satisfies the more rigorous specifications of the automotive industry. Kenneth J. Huth, Executive Vice President of the Corporation and President of SPM, said, "With the QS9000 Certification complete, SPM now has a quality system that adds a continuous improvement capability to its ISO 9002 system. This will have a positive impact on cost containment as it emphasizes defect prevention along with the reduction of waste in the supply chain. This certification will provide an opportunity to capture new automotive business and increase SPM's market share worldwide in the automotive sector." In addition, the Corporation announced that SPM recently opened a wire manufacturing and stamping facility in Penang, Malaysia to service the Asian market.
