ATX Technologies, Inc., Appoints New VP Global Internet Strategy and Development; Ronald B. Meredeith to Join TeamSAN ANTONIO, June 2 -- ATX Technologies is taking to the fast track in the development of its Internet Webserver programs. The appointment of Ronald B. Meredeith, formerly of Dell Computer Corporation, Power Computing Corporation and Trimble Navigation Ltd. Aerospace, is timely with the expansion of customer services for ATX Technologies. Meredeith began his tenure with ATX on May 24, 1999. "Meredeith has all the elements we need to take our high tech, high touch service into the 21st century," said Steve Riebel, president and CEO of ATX Technologies. "His role is to implement the strategies we need to take our telematics service model to the internet and the multitude of opportunities that opens up for delivering important information. His Global Positioning System industry experience with Trimble Navigation coupled with his "Direct Model" experience for Dell Computing and Power Computing matches our needs perfectly." Telematics is a relatively new high-tech service industry made possible by integrating wireless communications technology, location-identification technology, and a combination of automated and human response operations. Telematics enables an array of services for the mobile environment -- emergency and roadside assistance, vehicle theft recovery, fleet tracking, navigation, remote diagnostics, convenience services, and soon, under Meredeith's leadership, a host of Web-based information services. Meredeith comes to ATX Technologies from Trimble Navigation in Austin, Texas as Executive Director of Finance and Controls. At Trimble he concentrated his efforts on the financial and operations needs of the company and developed a dynamic budget that became a tool for management and owners. He served as Senior Director of Business Operations for Power Computing Corporation in Round Rock, Texas in 1996 and 1997 and developed the innovative Customer Care Program, Business Operations Plan and "Power Meter" Performance Measurement System to facilitate communication of goals and strategies. From 1988 to 1995 Meredeith held several positions with Dell Computer Corporation in Austin, Texas including Director of the Global Finance Program. He directed a 35-member team to consolidate financial closings approvals and reduced the waiting time from 21 days to four. The program he developed was implemented in more than 20 countries, including three manufacturing sites, in less than two years. Meredeith will oversee the development of ATX's wireless data communication and management system, known as On-Guard Webserver(SM). Webserver is being developed for the mobile customer in four phases: a data center infrastructure, currently under completion; the identification and use of information agents; a destination planning database; and a voice messaging service. Texas-based ATX Technologies (http://www.track.com) is recognized as the industry pioneer in the mobile mayday and telematics arena for both personal and commercial applications. The company was the first to have simultaneous voice/data transmission, the first to offer embedded cellular technology and service with no handset/no cellular activation, and the first to offer multi- mode wireless services: cellular AMPS, digital, and Aeris Communications, Inc. Microburst(TM) technology. ATX's On-Guard Response Center provides 24-hour world-class traveler support in five languages. Services include navigation and roadside assistance, convenience services and emergency help. ATX works with a wide range of commercial and consumer clients, including Greyhound Lines Inc., Brink's Mobile Security, Alpine Electronics of America, Fujitsu Ten Corp. of America, and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
