ABB Powers Up with $200-Million Aussie Energy Plant

ABB Wins US$ 200-Million Turnkey Order for Australian Combined-Cycle Power Plant; Contract to Build Australia's Largest Gas-Fired Combined-Cycle Power plant

    ZURICH, Switzerland--June 2, 1999--ABB has been awarded a turnkey contract to build a 500-megawatt combined-cycle power plant in Australia. The plant will be built at Pelican Point, near the city of Adelaide, South Australia. The order, valued at approximately US$ 200 million, was placed by National Power PLC, a British-based power plant owner and operator with worldwide operations. The plant will be built in stages, with 160 megawatts to be on line by November 2000. The plant is scheduled to be at full commercial operation by April 2001.
    The power plant - which will be Australia's largest and most efficient - will be equipped with two GT13E2 gas turbines. The turbines are equipped with advanced high-efficiency, low-emission burner technology to help meet strict environmental requirements at the site. ABB will also supply the overall power plant control system, plant engineering, and associated installation and commissioning.
