Standard Products of Mexico Receives QS 9000 Certification
    DEARBORN, Mich., June 1 -- The Standard Products Company
announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary Standard Products
of Mexico recently achieved QS 9000 certification.  QS 9000 is the North
American auto industry's rigorous quality certification process.  All of
Standard Products automotive plants in North America and the United Kingdom
have been certified QS 9000.
    Standard Products of Mexico was among a select group of suppliers in
Mexico to receive the new third edition of the QS 9000 designation since it
replaced the second edition in January.  Dr. Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Leon,
president of the Republic of Mexico, attended a celebration at Standard
Products' plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to congratulate the company on its
accomplishment.
    Standard Products of Mexico manufactures weatherstrip, seals and exterior
trim for Mexican original equipment manufacturers of automobiles, heavy-duty
trucks, RVs and for the automotive aftermarket.  The company is a joint
venture between Standard Products and Nishikawa Rubber Company, with Standard
Products the 70% partner.
