Subaru Announces May Sales FiguresCHERRY HILL, N.J., June 1 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) today announced its May sales figures. Subaru recorded a sales total of 11,430 units for the month, slightly down from the same period last year (12,280 units). The decrease is due in part to limited Legacy availability. Since the end of April the company's U.S. joint manufacturing plant discontinued production of the 1999 Legacy models in preparation for the launch of the new 2000 model year Legacy vehicles. Year-to-date totals of 58,322 units are up 10 percent over 1998 year-to-date totals of 53,183 units. The Legacy model line led sales with 5,934 units posted. The Outback accounted for 3,849 units. Forester posted sales of 4,075 units, an increase of 24 percent over the same month last year. Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a network of nearly 600 franchised dealers across the United States.
