HP Selected to Operate and Support Data-center Servers for Ford Motor Company; HP to Help Ford Fulfill its Business Strategy

    PALO ALTO, Calif.--June 1, 1999--Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that it has been selected by Ford Motor Company to operate and maintain Ford's data-center servers, its telecommunications network and distributed servers. HP will support Ford in fulfilling Ford's business strategy to gain increased consumer focus.
    On April 27, the companies entered into a multiyear agreement in which HP will expand its current role in supporting Ford's telecommunications network. HP will support and administer Ford's server environment worldwide, including e-mail, Web and database servers, allowing Ford's IT professionals to focus on strategic business issues.
    HP is one of Ford's business partners, helping to operate and maintain Ford's IT infrastructure hardware. As part of the agreement, HP will expand its role in supporting the network infrastructure at Ford, including Ford Credit, the world's largest automotive financing company.

Ford's Business Objectives

    Ford has engaged HP to operate and support its servers, telecommunications, data centers and distributed servers. In support of the initiative, HP will establish an Operations Services Center in Dearborn, Mich.
    "We worked with Ford to set accurate expectations and co-developed new ways of applying technology and processes to address critical business issues," said Mike Needham, HP's global client business manager. "Ford valued our willingness to learn its business. HP has an established long-term relationship with Ford and has supported its TCP/IP network for almost a decade."
