IHS Engineering Creates New Database for Identifying Obsolete Components; A Cost-Effective Solution That Instantly Identifies Obsolete Parts On Bills of Material
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--June 1, 1999--IHS Engineering, a leading engineering and technical information publisher, today announced the release of the IHS DMS Alert Service, a new, cost-effective tool to help design, purchasing and maintenance professionals manage product obsolescence. The IHS DMS Alert Service is the only service of its kind that identifies obsolescence in entire bills of material (BOM) as opposed to specific part numbers. The IHS DMS Alert Service uses e-mail to allow users to send their original BOM to IHS Engineering where the service will analyze parts and identify obsolescence and EOL (End of Life) issues. The service offers a variety of update report schedules, enabling users to stay current on DMSMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages) throughout the year. These reports can take the form of e-mails or detailed ASCII reports that can be integrated with internal corporate systems.
"The IHS DMS Alert Service helps engineers save time and money by making DMS management as easy as sending an e-mail," said Robert Wing, president and CEO of IHS Engineering. "By analyzing an entire BOM, we are able to offer a low-cost, managed solution for tracking product availability. The engineer simply has to send us the appropriate information and we take it from there."
IHS Engineering has additional databases that complement the IHS DMS Alert Service once obsolete parts have been identified. These databases will allow users to quickly and efficiently locate replacements for obsolete components and parts flagged by the IHS DMS Alert Service.
