DYSON, MOSLER, PTG CARS FAST IN FIRST PRACTICE FOR DODGE DEALERS GRAND PRIX

LAKEVILLE, Conn. – Picking up where they left off, the Dyson Racing team
turned the fastest two practice laps on the first day of the Dodge Dealers
Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park, Round Two of the USRRC Can-Am and GT
Championships.
Butch Leitzinger, of State College, Pa., turned a lap of 50.603 (108.84
mph) on the 1.54-mile circuit in the No. 20 Goodyear/Bosch/Hella Riley &
Scott Mk. III Ford, edging teammate Andy Wallace, of England, in the No. 16
Goodyear/Bosch/Hella Riley & Scott Mk. III Ford. The No. 8 Support Net Riley
& Scott Mk. III Ford, the No. 28 Banana Joes Lola Ford and the No. 36
Michelin/MOMO Ferrari 333 SP completed the day's top-five.
"We've been to Lime Rock the last five years, we ought to be doing pretty
well," said Leitzinger. "This team is great at being right on with the car
out of the truck which really makes it easy on the driver. I can work on
what I am doing as a driver, and not spend the practice diagnosing problems
with the car.
"This weekend's race will be as tough as the rest of them have been. This
isn't a huge field, but there are a good number of quality cars that will
make for good racing."
Missing from the top of the practice sheets was the No. 27
Lista/Michelin/MOMO Ferrari 333 SP of Fredy Lienhard and Didier Theys, which
blew an engine early in the first session. The car will be repaired by
practice on Saturday.
The No. 30 Mosler Automotive Mosler Intruder made its USRRC GT2 debut with
drivers Stephane Roy, Loic Depailler and Joao Barbosa. The trio turned the
fastest time of the GT2 field, with a lap of 0:55.968 (98.41 mph)–under the
existing track record.
The Prototype Technology Group BMW M3s swept the top-three spots in the GT3
class, with the No. 7 Yokohama/Flextronics/Level one entry of Johanes van
Overbeek and Brian Cunningham setting the day's fastest time with a 0:57.504
(95.78 mph).
"I think we have a good car," said Cunningham. "In two laps on fresh rubber
this morning, we were faster than all these cars on fresh rubber and more
time to work on their cars (in the afternoon). We (van Overbeek and
Cunningham) are two new guys who haven't really been on this track a long
time, so to come out with the fastest car of the day of these cars...I think
it's pretty good."
There was only one on-track incident on the day, when the No. 17 Courage
Chevrolet Can-Am car of Michael A. Jacobs hit the guard rail in the chicane
after the shift knob broke off in his hand. Jacobs was uninjured and the car
will be repaired for Saturday.
