American Jewish Committee Selects William Clay Ford, Jr.

William Clay Ford, Jr. To Receive 1999 National Human Relations Award
    The American Jewish Committee (AJC) will present its 1999 National Human 
Relations Award to William Clay Ford, Jr., Chairman of Ford Motor Company,
at a special dinner event on June 23, 1999 at the Henry Ford Museum in 
Dearborn, Michigan. 
    The AJC's annual award is presented to individuals who have attained a 
leadership role in industry or the professions, and who have contributed 
significantly to the greater community through civic involvement and philanthropic 
endeavors.
    Mr. Ford, who is also Vice Chairman of the Detroit Lions, is an innovative
industry leader on environmental issues, an advocate for human rights, and a
generous supporter of a wide range of philanthropic endeavors.  He is Chairman
of the Board of Trustees of the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.  He
is a Trustee of the Henry Ford Health System, Detroit Renaissance and
Conservation International.  Mr. Ford is a member of the World Economic
Forum's Global Leaders for Tomorrow.  In addition to other civic activities on
behalf of the city of Detroit, Mr. Ford serves on the Board of Directors of
the Greater Downtown Partnership.
    Born in Detroit in 1957, Mr. Ford earned his undergraduate degree from
Princeton University and his graduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology.
    Robert K. Kraft, Chairman of The Kraft Group, Owner of the New England
Patriots, President of Rand-Whitney Group and the International Forest
Products Group of Companies, will serve as Dinner Chairman.  Ralph J. Gerson
of Guardian Industries International, and Eugene Driker of Barris, Scott, Denn
and Driker, will serve as AJC Co-Chairs.  Serving as Honorary Chairman will be
Max M. Fisher.
    For more than nine decades, the American Jewish Committee has worked to
strengthen democracy, build tolerance and promote intergroup understanding at
home and around the world.  Through its regional and overseas offices,
institutes and international partnerships, AJC conducts programs and sponsors
survey research on critical issues affecting the American Jewish community.
