Ultradata Systems, Inc.'s Patent Approved to Link Auto Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Radar Detectors

Ultradata Systems, Inc.'s Patent Approved to Link Auto Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Radar Detectors
ST. LOUIS, May 27 -- Ultradata Systems, Inc. ,
the leader in handheld direction, location and information products powered by
its patented data compression technology and proprietary database, received an
announcement from the U.S. patent office that it has received a patent which
Ultradata expects will significantly advance radar detection systems in
automobiles by integrating a GPS receiver into the radar detection device.
By use of this patent, it becomes possible and practical to prevent false
radar detection alarms. The radar detection only sounds or displays an alarm
when the vehicle is actually exceeding a preset speed and radar is present.
Monte Ross, President and CEO, stated "that with the arrival of Global
Positioning Systems (GPS) in the automobile, advances in radar detection
system can be accomplished by an integrated unit which does both auto
navigation and radar detection." According to CEMA, the radar detection
business was projected at $155 million in 1998.
"An integrated GPS/Radar detection should achieve advances and economies
not possible with separate systems. Radar detector false alarms can be
prevented along with the constant annoyance. We are in discussion with
several radar detector manufacturers regarding a single integrated GPS/Radar
Detector unit that accomplishes the benefits of auto navigation and provides a
better radar detection system. In addition to reduction of false alarms, the
combined GPS/Radar Detection unit can provide voice output and warnings
including the government Safety Warning Signals (SWS) being put in place
around the country, and may even alert drivers by voice when they enter speed
zones," said Ross. "The strategy will be to match up the product with an able
marketer who can fund the proper launch and distribution for such a product.
We do not anticipate any significant cost to us to bring this product to
market. We would expect it to reach the market in mid-year 2000."
In a recent development, Ultradata announced its joint ownership with
Influence, LLC of Influence Data, LLC. Influence Data will provide the
creation of a comprehensive e-commerce business channel dedicated to travel
products to reach consumers who shop on-line. The company will also develop
partnership agreements to sell other leading travel products and services.
Ultradata Systems is a developer and manufacturer of portable GPS auto
navigation products, including TravelStar(TM) GPS and is readying an advanced
portable GPS product, TravelStar 24, for production later this year.
TravelStar 24 recently won an innovation award at the January 99 Consumer
Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Its GPS receivers are supplied
by Talon Research and Development Ltd., New Zealand in which the company has a
25% interest. Talon, a manufacturer of low-cost, high-performance GPS
receivers, is a supplier to Fortune 1000 companies.
