American Honda Opens U.S. Power Equipment Headquarters; Larger Alpharetta, Ga., Location Reflects Growing Sales Demand

ALPHARETTA, Ga.--May 24, 1999--American Honda Motor Co. Inc.'s Power Equipment Division Monday celebrated the grand opening of the division's new headquarters building in Alpharetta.
The new, significantly larger headquarters was developed to accommodate the division's recent sales growth and plans for future growth.
The new facility is home to 100 sales, marketing and administrative associates, and totals 60,000 square feet, including 43,800 sq. ft. of office space and 16,200 sq. ft. of product- evaluation and laboratory-testing space. Construction of the $6 million building was completed in March 1999.
"In 1998, Honda set a new U.S. sales record, selling over 1 million power products and capping a 94-percent sales increase for the past five years," said Wade Terry, vice president of Honda's Power Equipment Division.
"The new Alpharetta facility will help us better meet our current customer needs and future growth, and is convenient to our customer base and our North Carolina-based manufacturing and R&D facilities."
Honda's Power Equipment Division markets advanced and environmentally responsible outboard marine motors, lawn mowers, general-purpose engines, generators, tractors, snow blowers and other products. The lawn mowers and lawn tractors are assembled in North Carolina at Honda Power Equipment Manufacturing Inc., in Swepsonville.
Since 1984, American Honda has owned two additional facilities in Alpharetta, where regional sales, service and parts operations are based for the Honda and Acura Automobile, Honda Motorcycle and Honda Parts Divisions. With the addition of the new Power Equipment Division facility, Honda now employs nearly 300 associates in the city.
Honda Power Equipment Division products focus on quality, high efficiency, durability, reliability and environmental responsibility. All Honda Power Equipment products exclusively use 4-stroke engine technology, which is cleaner, quieter and more fuel efficient than traditional 2-stroke engine technology.
In addition, today's Honda marine outboard engines meet Environmental Protection Agency emissions standards for the year 2006.
Honda Power Equipment Division, which has been operating in the United States for 23 years, sold 1,047,124 power products in the United States in 1998, a 42 percent increase over 1997 sales.
