SME's EASTEC '99 Advanced Productivity Exposition Brings More Resources to Northeast ManufacturersNearly 500 New Products On Display WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 24 -- Bringing state-of-the-art machine tools and metalworking technologies to diverse Northeast manufacturing industries, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers' (SME) EASTEC '99 Advanced Productivity Exposition (APEX) opens tomorrow at the Eastern States Exposition Grounds. The East Coast's largest annual manufacturing exposition supports the region's manufacturing sector by providing the resources companies need for high-quality, efficient production. With some 200 new exhibitors at this year's show, there will be several hundred new products showcased throughout the exposition. EASTEC '99 show hours are: Tuesday, May 25, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Wednesday, May 26, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; and Thursday, May 27, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. There is ample, free parking adjacent to the exposition. Some 22,000 engineers and executives from throughout New England, Eastern Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey and Eastern New York can see 800 exhibitors representing 2,200 international product lines. Leading machine tool builders, regional distributors and accessories manufacturers will demonstrate the newest equipment from Bridgeport, Cincinnati Machine, Daewoo, Fadal, Haas, Hardinge, Hitachi Seiki, Mazak, Mori Seiki, Niigata, Okuma, Sodick, Toyoda and others. Product technologies include machining centers; lathes; EDM; cutting tools; waterjet cutting; machine controls (CNC/NC/DNC); CAD/CAM; assembly and automation equipment and flexible manufacturing systems -- more than 150 categories in all. Running May 24-27, the EASTEC '99 Conference will be held at the Springfield Marriott in Springfield, Mass. Offering new educational opportunities, Exhibitor-Led Technical Sessions will highlight the new products and advanced technologies seen on the show floor (free admission for exposition attendees), and advanced courses and clinics will address specific manufacturing and production technologies. Taking place Wednesday, May 26 and Thursday, May 27, the EASTEC Youth Summit gives local high school and vocational students first-hand knowledge about exciting and challenging manufacturing careers. Students will tour the exposition seeing hands-on technology demonstrations from select exhibiting companies, then discuss manufacturing careers with local SME Chapter members. EASTEC '99 is co-sponsored by SME, rated in Tradeshow Week Data Book 1998 as a Top-10 tradeshow producer, the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association (AMTDA), and AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology. EASTEC is part of the Advanced Productivity Exposition (APEX) series produced by SME.
