industries, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers' (SME) EASTEC '99 Advanced
Productivity Exposition (APEX) opens tomorrow at the Eastern States Exposition
Grounds. The East Coast's largest annual manufacturing exposition supports
the region's manufacturing sector by providing the resources companies need
for high-quality, efficient production. With some 200 new exhibitors at this
year's show, there will be several hundred new products showcased throughout
the exposition.
    EASTEC '99 show hours are: Tuesday, May 25, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Wednesday,

representing 2,200 international product lines. Leading machine tool
builders, regional distributors and accessories manufacturers will demonstrate
the newest equipment from Bridgeport, Cincinnati Machine, Daewoo, Fadal, Haas,
Hardinge, Hitachi Seiki, Mazak, Mori Seiki, Niigata, Okuma, Sodick, Toyoda and
others.
Product technologies include machining centers; lathes; EDM; cutting
tools; waterjet cutting; machine controls (CNC/NC/DNC); CAD/CAM; assembly and
automation equipment and flexible manufacturing systems -- more than 150
categories in all.
Running May 24-27, the EASTEC '99 Conference will be held at the
Springfield Marriott in Springfield, Mass. Offering new educational
opportunities, Exhibitor-Led Technical Sessions will highlight the new
products and advanced technologies seen on the show floor (free admission for
exposition attendees), and advanced courses and clinics will address specific
manufacturing and production technologies.
Taking place Wednesday, May 26 and Thursday, May 27, the EASTEC Youth
Summit gives local high school and vocational students first-hand knowledge
about exciting and challenging manufacturing careers. Students will tour the
exposition seeing hands-on technology demonstrations from select exhibiting
companies, then discuss manufacturing careers with local SME Chapter members.
EASTEC '99 is co-sponsored by SME, rated in Tradeshow Week Data Book 1998
as a Top-10 tradeshow producer, the American Machine Tool Distributors'
Association (AMTDA), and AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology.
EASTEC is part of the Advanced Productivity Exposition (APEX) series produced
by SME. APEX events bring together builders, distributors and users of
machine tools and metalworking equipment in key U.S. manufacturing centers.
