Nissan Announces 2000 Model Year Maxima, Xterra, Complete Frontier Truck Lineup Pricing- Flagship Sedan Offers more Value in the New Millennium; All-New Back-to-Basics SUV Sports Value - DETROIT, May 19 -- Nissan North America, Inc. today announced aggressive 2000 model year pricing for an all-new flagship Maxima, a brand new entry in the SUV segment -- Xterra -- and the complete Frontier truck lineup, including the new Crew Cab and agile Desert Runner. Blending luxury and performance, the stylish Maxima is priced nearly $2,100 lower on a sales-weighted average than a comparably equipped 1999 Maxima. The high-value, rugged Xterra pricing begins at an affordable $17,349 MSRP. Frontier Crew Cab, the first compact pickup truck with four "real" forward-hinged doors for sale in the United States, has a starting MSRP of $17,290 for an XE 4x2 and $19,890 for an XE 4x4. Desert Runner, a King Cab V6 4x2 Frontier with the ride height and curb appeal of a 4WD -- yet the economy of a 2WD -- starts at $15,740 MSRP for the XE model. "The launch of the all-new 2000 Maxima, Xterra, Frontier Crew Cab and Desert Runner represents Nissan's resurgence -- with many more new products to follow," said Jed Connelly, vice president and general manager of the Nissan Division of Nissan North America, Inc. With more features and amenities in 2000 -- in a vehicle that already had a long list of standard equipment -- Maxima boasts a 32 horsepower increase to 222 compared with the award-winning 1999 model. The 222-horsepower engine will be standard on Maxima's complete lineup of GXE, SE and GLE models. New too for all Maximas is a 100,000 mile service interval before tuneup is required, which is part of a Nissan Division-wide initiative for all 2000 models. Maxima GXE gains ABS, Remote Keyless Entry, auto on/off headlights, a 60/40 split rear seat and auto driver's window as standard features and starts at $21,049 for manual transmission, $450 less than the 1999 model. Several options are available with GXE, including power sliding glass sunroof for $899. The sports-tuned Maxima SE has firmer springs, front struts and shock absorbers and is further differentiated with the addition of smoked rear taillights and new sporty 5-spoke alloy wheels. It starts at $23,649 for manual transmission and $24,149 for automatic. A new seventh speaker has been added to the 200-watt Bose(R) audio system of the Maxima GLE, and its standard leather seating and woodtone trim give GLE its top-of-the-line luxury moniker at a starting price of $26,249, down $650 versus 1999. "Xterra offers the functionality and rugged good looks that many active and youthful SUV shoppers want," said Connelly. "Xterra has the style and attitude that nothing else in the marketplace can deliver." Xterra sports several distinctive and innovative features. Among them are a tubular-style roof rack with basket, an interior bike mount, ceiling tie downs and a First Aid kit. Available in 4x2 or 4x4, 4-cylinder or V6 and as an XE or SE model, Xterra comes with many standard features, including air conditioning, stadium seating for increased rear passenger headroom, anti-lock brakes, black privacy glass and full console with four cup holders. The 4x2 XE V6 manual transmission begins at $18,499, while the SE starts at $22,549. The 4x4 Xterra XE starts at $20,499, and the 4x4 Xterra SE begins at $24,549. In the back-to-basics Xterra, Nissan has kept it simple. The Xterra SE comes loaded, and the XE may be customized with three option packages -- the Power Package, Sport Package and Utility Package. The Power Package, available for $1,299, includes cruise control, Vehicle Security System with remote keyless entry and overhead map lights, along with power windows, door locks and outside mirrors. The $799 Sport Package includes alloy wheels, fog lamps and limited-slip differential. Tubular roof rack with cross bars and removal gear basket and step rails are part of the Utility Package. In addition, rear window wiper, retractable cargo cover, tilt steering column and auxiliary 12 volt power ports in the dashboard and cargo area are among the other items offered in the Utility Package, available for $899 on the 4x2 XE4-cylinder and $999 on other XEs. Now rounded out with the addition of Crew Cab and Desert Runner, the 2000 Frontier lineup overall offers consumers a full range of compact trucks with more value for less money. All XE models come standard with tachometer, low fuel warning light and dual 12V DC power outlets. Single disk CD, leather steering wheel/shift knob and 16" wheels are standard equipment on all SE models. These additional features result in an increase of only $50 for King Cab XE models and $300 for King Cab SE models. Frontier Regular Cab 4x2, with a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder and manual transmission, starts at $11,590, while the King Cab 4x2 begins at $13,540. The walk from the base Desert Runner to the SE model is a little more than $2,000 to $17,890. Frontier King Cab 4x4 starts at $17,340 for the 2.4 liter 4-cylinder XE and $18,340 for the XE V6. The sporty SE King Cab 4x4 has a base of $20,490. All Frontier trucks are available with a variety of options and accessories to meet the varied needs of owners.
