Cummins Engine Co., Inc. Names Frank J. McDonald as Vice President -- Quality

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--May 17, 1999--Cummins Engine Co., Inc., a major worldwide producer of diesel engines, has named Frank J. McDonald, vice president -- quality. McDonald, currently vice president -- worldwide midrange operations for Cummins, will be responsible for worldwide quality objectives across all Cummins' operations.
    "Outstanding quality is an essential requirement for delivering value to our customers and to our shareholders," said Tim Solso, President and Chief Operating Officer, in announcing McDonald's appointment. "Frank McDonald has a deep understanding of and commitment to quality principles and practices, and I am pleased that he has accepted this task." McDonald, who will report directly to Solso, will also be a member of Cummins' Policy and Operating Committees.
    McDonald joined Cummins in 1987 as Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide Operations for Onan in Fridley, Minnesota. In 1992, he moved to Columbus as Vice President -- Midrange Manufacturing, assuming responsibility for Worldwide Midrange Operations in 1996.
    Prior to his work at Cummins, McDonald was with General Electric for nineteen years. While at GE, he had assignments in a number of different businesses in Singapore, Australia and in the U.S. with the Electrical Distribution and Control Business in Plainville, Connecticut, where he was General Manager of Production.
    McDonald was born in Dublin, Ireland and earned his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ireland in Dublin. He completed the General Electric Management program and MBA studies at Gannon College in Erie, Pennsylvania.
