Finishing '99 Covers it all With Advanced Coating Technologies For Manufacturing
    DEARBORN, Mich., May 17 -- Showcasing the latest advances in
painting and coating technologies, Finishing '99, North America's largest
coating systems for manufacturing exposition, opens tomorrow at the
International Exposition (I-X) Center in Cleveland, Ohio.  The event runs
May 18-20.
    The biennial expo, designed for those involved in coating systems, serves
the technology needs of industries including appliance, automotive, furniture,
lawn and garden, sporting goods, and general industrial markets using powder
coating, liquid coating, waterborne, and E-coat for all substrates (i.e.,
metal, wood and plastic).  Live demonstrations of multiple finishing processes
at the first-ever Technology Demonstration Center, will focus on the
Quality/Inspection function within the finishing process.
    Exposition hours are Tuesday, May 18, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday, May 19,
10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Thursday, May 20, 10 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  Conference hours are
Monday, May 17, 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 8 a.m.-4:00 p.m.;
Wednesday, May 19, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 20, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    Some 4,500 attendees from the Great Lakes region will see advanced
technologies demonstrated by 200 exhibitors occupying nearly 45,000 net square
feet of exhibit space.
    The State of the Industry Report Panel, moderated by Industrial Paint &
Powder editor, Jane Bailey, and presentation of SME's Association for
Finishing Processes Best Paper Award, are Tuesday, May 18 from 8:00 a.m.-
10:00 a.m.
    The Finishing '99 Conference (May 17-20), co-sponsored by the Association
for Finishing Processes of SME (AFP/SME), covers the latest finishing
techniques, including liquid paint system design and applications, powder
coating design and applications, appearance measurement techniques, surface
preparation, plastics finishing, environmental/compliant technologies,
infrared technology and applications.  An exhibitor-led New Technology Panel
will highlight the technologies and processes seen on the show floor, and
attendees can also take the plant tour at UV Coatings, Ltd.  An American
Electroplaters and Surface Finishers (AESF) course is also offered.
    Automotive Finishing 2000 is scheduled at Cobo Center, Detroit, Mich. on
May 3-4, 2000.
