Avis Rent A Car, Inc. Agrees to Buy Nashville's Motorent, Inc.

    GARDEN CITY, N.Y., May 13 -- Avis Rent A Car, Inc.
today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase
Motorent, Inc. of Nashville, Tennessee, a 47-year-old Avis franchise.
    Motorent, Inc. operates at the Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis and
Chattanooga international airports.  The company generates approximately
$38 million in annual revenue.  It operates a fleet of approximately
3,500 vehicles and employs 250 people.
    "This recent transaction demonstrates our continued commitment to enhance
shareholder value by capitalizing on strategic business opportunities," said
Kevin M. Sheehan, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.  "With
the purchase of Motorent, Inc. our acquisition program now totals $350 million
of additional revenue.  We will continue to identify ways to more effectively
utilize our strong cash flow so that we can carefully position our company for
the new millennium."
