AuthenTec Demonstrates Fingerprint Identification Applications at CardTech/SecurTech '99 Show

    CHICAGO--May 13, 1999--

Biometric Identification Inc., I/O Software and SAFLINK
Show Biometric Applications
Incorporating AuthenTec's E-Field Technology(TM)

CARDTECH/SECURTECH SHOW, BOOTH 954 -- AuthenTec Inc., the first company to offer a biometric fingerprint identification technology capable of working for everyone, unveiled at CardTech/SecurTech (CTST) this week several demonstrations highlighting its E-Field Technology(TM) and the promise of its Solution Providers Network.
AuthenTec's Solution Providers Network was launched yesterday to align global industry leaders to deliver complete biometric fingerprint identification solutions for personal computer, data network and personal identification security.
"While our demonstrations at CTST bring real-world applications to life, the engine behind the applications is our E-Field Technology," said Scott Moody, president and CEO of AuthenTec. "E-Field Technology is the first fingerprint identification technology to read beyond the surface layer of skin to the live layer, where the true fingerprint begins. This enables superior reliability, durability and lower cost and gives the companies with whom we work the security of knowing our joint solutions will work under real-world conditions."
AuthenTec's E-Field Technology, the foundation of its planned FingerLoc(TM) product offering, is being demonstrated in E-commerce, PC, home security and Internet applications. Other markets for AuthenTec's technology include networking, automotive and access control.
"Others have demonstrated applications in the past, but these applications have suffered a fundamental flaw: they're rooted in technologies that don't work for everyone under real-world conditions," said Moody. "With E-Field Technology, AuthenTec is leapfrogging the competition and driving the development of foolproof products."
AuthenTec's demonstrations (booth no. 954) will reveal E-Field Technology's ability to acquire, image clarity, and software and algorithm independence. AuthenTec also will illustrate the use of E-Field Technology to eliminate passwords in applications such as accounting software and online trading. The demonstrations include:
I/O Software - Various demonstrations will illustrate the replacement of passwords with fingerprints for popular software programs and Internet sites, using I/O Software's SecureSuite(TM). SecureSuite is a suite of integrated applications that brings the convenience and security of biometric and other authentication methods to a PC or network environment.
SAFLINK -- This demonstration will show how AuthenTec's E-Field Technology operates with SAFLINK's Internet/Intranet security application, SAFSite. SAFSite is part of SAFLINK's Secure Authentication Facility (SAF) suite of biometric network security products that deliver enterprise-level secure access control to network operating system platforms and network applications.
Biometric Identification, Inc. -- This demonstration will show AuthenTec's technology working with Biometric ID's Ridge Recognition algorithm, which uniquely adjusts for the effects of swollen, dirty, scarred or cut fingers - the main pitfalls of standard minutia-based algorithms.
E-Field Technology image demonstration -- This enhanced 1000 dpi image will allow CTST attendees to view their own fingerprint image clarity as produced through E-Field Technology.
Identification demonstration -- This demonstration of AuthenTec's software will highlight one-to-one and one-to-many identification, and showcase the acquisition success achieved through E-Field Technology.
Home security demonstration -- This exhibit will show an application for arming and disarming a home security system that requires no PINs or passwords.
All demonstrations in the booth incorporate AuthenTec's E-Field Technology. This Technology, announced last month, represents a whole new generation of fingerprint identification, in that it reads the sub-surface, live layer of skin. Because of this, and unlike previous technologies, E-Field Technology is not limited by surface issues such as dry, damaged or dirty skin.
E-Field Technology supports dynamic optimization, a sensing mechanism that can be dynamically varied to optimize detection of various types of fingerprint features, and allows for robust chip coatings that are up to 50x the thickness of the average semiconductor oxide. These features provide reliability, durability and lower cost.
CTST is the world's largest card and security technology exhibition, featuring solutions for the financial, transportation, security, government, health care and communications sectors. Learn more about CTST at www.ctst.com.
AuthenTec, Inc. is a privately-held company located in Melbourne, Fla. Spun off from Harris Corporation in October 1998, AuthenTec is the only provider of personal security and identification technology capable of being used by everyone. Using next-generation E-Field Technology, AuthenTec delivers convenient security for real-world applications replacing keys, cards, passwords and PINs. Visit AuthenTec's Web site at www.authentec.com.
