Delco Remy America Signs Multi-Year Contract with General Motors
    ANDERSON, Ind., May 11 -- Delco Remy International, Inc.
has announced that its OEM subsidiary Delco Remy America (DRA) has
signed a multi-year agreement with General Motors Corporation to supply
starting motors.  This agreement expands DRA's original 1994 agreement with GM
to include supplying starting motors for new engines introduced to support
General Motors North American Operations through 2008.
    DRA and its international operations will be the supplier of starting
motors for those engines for the life of production.  The agreement also
includes supplying motors for the new 4-cylinder L850 engine which will be
utilized in several countries by General Motors.

    Delco Remy America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delco Remy
International, Inc. Delco Remy International, Inc. became a public company
with an initial public offering of stock in December 1997.  The company
designs, manufactures, remanufactures and distributes electrical,
powertrain/drivetrain and related components for automobiles and light
trucks, medium and heavy-duty trucks and other heavy-duty off-road vehicles.
Products include starter motors, alternators, engines, transmissions, torque
converters, traction control systems and fuel systems for both the original
equipment and the aftermarket.  Approximately 25% of DRI's sales are to GM as
original equipment.
