UAW Makes $25,000 Donation to American Red Cross Midwest Tornado Fund For Oklahoma and Kansas Disaster ReliefDETROIT, May 7 -- The UAW is donating $25,000 to the American Red Cross Midwest Tornado Fund in support of disaster relief efforts in Oklahoma and Kansas following the devastating tornadoes on May 3 that have killed or injured scores of people and left thousands homeless. In announcing the donation today, UAW President Stephen P. Yokich said, "Our hearts go out to the many families affected by this terrible disaster. The UAW is a vital part of the Oklahoma City and Wichita, Kansas communities and we are pleased to be able to make this donation to the American Red Cross for their important relief work." "The UAW will also provide additional resources to assist our members and retirees, and others in those communities, during this difficult period," said Secretary Treasurer Ruben Burks, adding, "There is a lot that needs to be done right now and we are glad to contribute our experience in coping with disasters like this." The UAW Community Services Department has sent a Disaster Relief Team to Oklahoma and Kansas to assist UAW members, retirees and their families. The team will also assist in coordinating disaster relief efforts between the American Red Cross and various local and federal agencies.
