Delphi Provides High Quality/High Technology Batteries WorldwideFLINT, Mich., May 6 -- With battery manufacturing plants around the world, Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems continues to produce high-quality batteries for virtually every major auto manufacturer worldwide. In fact, Delphi Energy recently received contracts such as Land Rover, Volkswagen, Honda (Brazil, China and Canada), PSA, and GM do Brasil. Testimony to the reach of Delphi's reputation for producing quality batteries, the company is now ranked No. 1 for battery sales in Brazil. Batteries produced by Delphi Energy have proven to be the world's leader in quality and durability by a field return analysis conducted in hot and cold climates by an independent company in the U.S. and Canada. Conducted in 1998, the study documents the manufacturer, the manufacture or in-service date, and length of service. The analysis once again confirmed that batteries produced by Delphi Energy were significantly better than its competition. Batteries manufactured by Delphi lasted 14 percent longer than its nearest competitor and 34.4 percent longer than the average of all the competitors studied. Delphi batteries lasted 69 months, nearly nine months longer than its nearest competitor. In addition, Delphi continues to receive recognition from its customers. Recently, General Motors Corp. honored Delphi Energy with a "Supplier of the Year" award for the quality, service, technology and price of batteries produced worldwide. Also, Wal-Mart recently recognized Delphi batteries with an Aftermarket Award for the batteries provided through ACDelco for their private label. Toyota Motors Manufacturing North America Inc. and New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. also awarded Delphi Energy with Certificates of Achievement for meeting their stringent quality and cost requirements. Further reinforcing Delphi's leadership role in developing and producing high-quality batteries, Ronald M. Pogue, director of the Battery Business for Delphi Energy was elected president of the Battery Council International at the annual convention in Nashville, Tenn. Delphi is well positioned to address the expansion of niche specialty products that go beyond automotive, heavy-duty and non-automotive batteries. For example, motorcycle batteries have been added to Delphi's already extensive automotive product portfolio that includes the Freedom Battery, the Freedom Standard battery and soon to be launched Freedom Extra battery. Delphi produces approximately 30 million batteries annually worldwide with manufacturing facilities located in the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico, France, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, China, and Korea. Some of Delphi Energy's upcoming offerings include a Smart Battery, Megatray, and lithium polymer battery. SMART BATTERY Delphi Energy will commence launching its Smart Battery line up later this year with a 115-volt mobile A/C power offering. A subsequent launch will feature Freedom Extra with IntelliGuard(TM) electronics providing customers with crank protection that provides a guaranteed start, crash protection, reverse polarity and short-circuit protection; storage and vehicle export protection; and 115-volt mobile A/C power. MEGATRAY Delphi is uniquely positioned to offer its customers integrated solutions. Delphi will offer its Megatray Battery, which is a modular unit with quick connection devices. For example, four major components, a bussed electrical center, and a powertrain control module all integrated in a modular tray. LITHIUM POLYMER Delphi is also developing lithium polymer battery. This battery can address higher voltage systems with half the mass of current lead-acid batteries for the same power output. Lithium polymer batteries are spill-free and are flexible in size, shape and configuration. Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems is a division of Delphi Automotive Systems, with lead responsibility for the generation, conversion and storage of electrical energy; the flow of air and fuel into an engine; the combustion process; and the cleaning of exhaust emissions.
