Nissan Announces Appointment of Jed Connelly to Nissan Division Vice President Post:Seergy Resigns After Putting Division on Track CARSON, Calif., May 5 -- Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA), announced today the appointment of Jed Connelly as vice president and general manager, Nissan Division after reluctantly accepting the resignation of Michael J. Seergy, former head of the division. "We are disappointed that Mike has elected to pursue other business interests," said Minoru Nakamura, president of NNA. Though it is tough to say 'goodbye' to Mike after he has done a tremendous job during the last year, I am confident our management team will continue to enhance the success of Nissan. We wish Mike well in his pursuit of automotive-related opportunities he is considering on Wall Street." "I feel good about what the Nissan team accomplished last year," said Seergy. "We've had five months of sales increases and our dealer profitability is up 106.5 percent on a calendar year-to-date basis through March. I didn't do this alone. I had a great team to work with and I'm confident that Jed and the rest of my Nissan colleagues will continue the momentum to successfully launch Nissan's barrage of new products." Seergy joined Nissan in April 1990 as national market representation manager for Infiniti Division. He has held numerous key management positions at Nissan, including regional vice president for Nissan Division's Northeast region and regional general manager of the Infiniti West Region. He was appointed vice president, general manager of the Nissan Division in February 1998, and during the past 14 months made significant in-roads in sales, dealer profitability and dealer relations while creating a more focused integrated marketing campaign. Previously, he held positions at Hyundai Motor America and Ford Motor Company. Connelly, who recently held the position of director of staff operations at NNA, is promoted to vice president and general manager of the Nissan Division, reporting to Yuki Kitahora, NNA senior vice president, sales and marketing. He joined Nissan in 1989 as national direct marketing manager for Infiniti Division and has held other key Nissan management positions, including regional general manager for Nissan's Southwest region in 1990 and director of remarketing in 1994. From 1994 -- 1998, Connelly served as vice president of sales and marketing for Predelivery Service Corporation, a vehicle processor for Ford Motor Company and Mitsubishi Motor Sales. In 1998, he rejoined Nissan and was named director of staff operations for Nissan Division, where he was responsible for distribution, and contests and incentives programs. Prior to joining Nissan in 1989, Connelly served as director of sales for Sterling Motorcars, an importer and distributor of Sterling Automobiles based in England, and served in numerous management jobs at Volkswagen of America, Inc. Connelly holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Rutgers University and a juris doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law. "I am confident that the appointment of Jed as the new vice president and general manager of Nissan Division will continue our sales and new vehicle launch momentum," added Nakamura.
