General Motors Selects Goodyear as 'Supplier of the Year'
DETROIT, May 5 -- General Motors said it will recognize The
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company today as one of its global Suppliers of the
Year for 1998.
Goodyear will receive the award here based on standout performance in
quality, service, technology and price.
Les Connolly, Goodyear global account executive for GM, said Goodyear
associates should be proud of the accomplishment, particularly from the
world's largest vehicle manufacturer. "This acknowledgement is doubly
important since it is from such a large customer but a demanding one as well.
We are especially proud of how Goodyear associates respond to GM's business
needs.
"Our tire lines cross nearly every area of General Motors' models -- from
the sporty Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire to muscle cars Chevrolet
Camaro and Pontiac Firebird to luxury performance cars Cadillac Seville STS
and Oldsmobile Aurora to the incomparable Chevrolet Corvette -- as well as the
breadth of their truck product line. We are excited about the Goodyear tire
technology that is applied to these new vehicle models," Connolly said.
Now in its seventh year since GM made its Suppliers of the Year award
international, Goodyear has won this distinction two times. A subsidiary,
Goodyear de Brazil, received a GM Supplier of the Year Award in 1997.
"GM's Suppliers of the Year represent the 'best of the best,'" said Harold
R. Kutner, vice president and group executive, Worldwide Purchasing and North
American Production Control & Logistics. "Of GM's 30,000 suppliers, Goodyear
is one of only 184 who have achieved Supplier of the Year distinction for
1998, an honor accorded to those suppliers who have achieved world-class
levels of quality, service, technology and price in support of General
Motors."
Connolly said the award would make Goodyear work even harder in the
future. "We'll continue to respond to automaker and consumer concerns about
tire performance capabilities, convenience and safety. Our commitment to
technology to solve various issues ensures happy customers at General Motors
as well as satisfied consumers who purchase their vehicles," he said.
