Dana's Spicer Light Axle Group Earns Circle of Excellence Award for Leadership in Developing Minority Supplier PartnershipsFORT WAYNE, Ind., May 5 -- The Spicer Light Axle Group of Dana Corporation has earned the 1999 Circle of Excellence Award presented by the Indiana Regional Minority Supplier Development Council (IRMSDC). The award, which is sponsored by the National Minority Supplier Development Council, recognizes the axle group's "outstanding efforts and dedication toward the advancement of minority enterprises." During 1998, the Spicer Light Axle Group was recognized on five occasions by the IRMSDC as Northern Indiana's top corporation for purchasing materials and services from minority suppliers. Spicer Light Axle Group Director of Procurement Jim Hensel said, "Spicer Axle and Dana Corporation are extremely proud to have been recognized as a leader in the advancement of minority enterprises. Our procurement people have worked with each of our eight manufacturing and assembly facilities to develop partnerships with minority suppliers that are mutually beneficial and which add value to our bottom line." Spicer Light Axle Group facilities have made significant progress in purchases from minority suppliers, advancing from $2.1 million in minority purchases in 1996 to $10.2 million in 1998. The Group is expected to make more than $15 million in purchases from minority suppliers in 1999. "Our nearly five-fold growth in minority purchases over the past several years is indicative of Dana's commitment to this important endeavor," Hensel added. The Spicer Light Axle Group is part of Dana's Automotive Systems Group, a $4.3 billion strategic business unit comprising the design, manufacture, and assembly of axles, driveshafts, structural products, vehicular clutches and brakes, and modules and systems. The Light Axle Group is comprised of two market-oriented divisions: the Spicer Light Vehicle Axle Division, focusing on automobiles and sport utility vehicles; and the Spicer Light Truck Axle Division, which is focused on the needs of light truck and van producers.
